by Creativity Writer

If you are a New Yorker thinking about a commercial driving course for a new job or to make a career change, you’ll find no shortage of options, as there are plenty of places for taking a motorcycle driving course New York, and lots of online truck driving school New York options to choose from.

Truck drivers with commercial driving license (cdl) certification can qualify to operate semi-tractor trailers and heavy commercial trucks used to transport cargo across the country.  It’s a solid career move for many, and offers a great deal of freedom and flexibility…and time on the road.

You’ll need one of two types of CDL’s for a career in commercial trucking.  These are:
Class A:
•    Class A vehicles are typically a multiple axle (Tractor Trailer) that can weigh up to 80,000 pounds or more in special applications.
•    Drivers with this license can drive intrastate and interstate (cross country or over the road).
•    Pay is on a mileage basis and averages $35- $40K the first year up to a maximum of about $75-$80K depending on the company and experience.
Class B:
•    Class B vehicles are usually in excess of 26,000 pounds and a single axle.
•    Drivers with this license can run locally or intrastate (within the state).
•    Average starting pay is $12- $18 dollars per hour.

All states require you to have a CDL.  Before you enroll, make sure the school you’re interested in can guarantee you that you will learn the skills and proper certification for the class of license you are seeking.

Once you’ve completed the training course, you can apply for your license.  Be prepared to take a physical exam and complete mandatory drug testing every two years to maintain your license.

By the way, there also are plenty of New York City driver training course options for you, too, if you are hoping to get your license to drive a car.
